About Local 1822
Representing federal workers with strength, solidarity, and purpose since 1958
Our History
AFGE Local 1822 was chartered in 1958 by the American Federation of Government Employees, AFL-CIO, to represent federal employees in Central Texas. Founded by a small group of dedicated workers who believed that collective action was the only reliable path to fair treatment, the local grew steadily through the 1970s as federal employment expanded and workers recognized the value of union representation.
Through decades of contract negotiations, grievance victories, and legislative advocacy, Local 1822 has secured meaningful improvements for thousands of federal employees. Our members have stood together through attacks on federal workers' rights and we have emerged stronger each time.
Mission & Values
To protect and advance the rights, wages, and working conditions of federal employees through collective bargaining, member education, and solidarity.
